The Traffic Lights Priority system is designed employ the OBU connected data for improving the timeliness and reliability of public transit services. Based on wireless technology using the ZigBee protocol, the TLP system enables on-the-fly modification of traffic lights intervals, allowing public transit vehicles to pass through road junctions with minimal idling, using custom defined priorities. This enables the public transit vehicles, such as buses & trams, to save valuable time, stay on schedule and achieve more runs with the same number of vehicles.
