Usually, the LED displays on bus stops show arrival, departure and ETA information based on the vehicle GPS tracking data. The data is transferred to the control centre by satellite communication and is therefore never entirely reliable, as the transfer process features relative time delays. Buses often arrive and depart from stations before the information is even received at the control centre and shown on LED displays.
In order to improve the reliability of ETA notifications, Telargo has developed the Smart bus stop utilizing the ZigBee communication protocol. Whenever a bus equipped with a Telargo OBU reaches or departs from a station, arrival/departure times and statuses are instantly updated with virtually no delays and displayed on all smart bus stops as well as the Telargo Public Transit portal.
As a part of Telargo Passenger information Services, the Smart bus stop functionality is completely compatible with journey planners and the LED displays content can be remotely managed from a single location. The ETA information acquired through the Smart bus stop can also be accessed using mobile phones or other handheld devices.
Telargo’s Smart bus stop provides timely passenger information based on fast and effective communications. In average, the connection is established in less than 0.5 seconds, instantly providing accurate information on bus status.
Using the Smart bus stop, public transit operators can provide passengers with accurate and reliable ETA predictions, achieving greater passenger satisfaction and significantly improving their public image.
